Bush
Ghost Writer Shows Truth About Father and Son
Mickey Herskowitz - a ghost writer for both George W. Bush and
George H.W. Bush - has revealed startling information about both
men, which he learned from extensive candid conversations with the
41st and the 43rd presidents. Herskowitz revealed the information
in a series of interviews with investigative reporter Russ Baker,
which Baker tape recorded.[1]
Baker's article reveals that "in 2003, Bush's father
indicated to [Herskowitz] that he disagreed with his son's
invasion of Iraq."[2]
George W. Bush was reluctant to talk to Herskowitz about his
National Guard service. But Bush did tell him "that after
transferring from his Texas Guard unit two-thirds through his
six-year military obligation to work on an Alabama political
campaign, he did not attend any Alabama National Guard drills at
all, because he was 'excused.'"[3] Bush's comments to
Herskowitz "directly contradicts his public statements that
he participated in obligatory training with the Alabama National
Guard."[4]
According to Herskowitz, "two years before the September 11
attacks, presidential candidate George W. Bush was already talking
privately about attacking Iraq."[5] In 1999, Bush said to
Herskowitz, "My father had all this political capital built
up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it. If I
have a chance to invade.... if I had that much capital, I'm not
going to waste it. I'm going to get everything passed that I want
to get passed and I'm going to have a successful
presidency."[6]

Cheney
Misleads on Halliburton
Vice President Dick Cheney has insisted that criticism of his former
company Halliburton is unwarranted and politically motivated. On October
5th, at the vice-presidential debate, Cheney said, "the reason they
keep mentioning Halliburton is because they're trying to throw up a
smokescreen. They know the charges are false...there's no substance to
the charges."[1] The FBI isn't so sure.
It was revealed that "the FBI has expanded its
investigation of Halliburton's work in Iraq to determine if the Pentagon
improperly awarded no-bid contracts."[2] In June it was reported
that, according to an Army Corps of Engineer's email, a multi-billion
dollar no-bid contract for Halliburton "had been 'coordinated' with
the office of Vice President Cheney."[3]

Bush
Misleads on Osama Bin Laden
At last night's debate President Bush claimed that, contrary to Sen.
John Kerry's assertion, he never said he was "not that
concerned" about Osama Bin Laden. Bush chastised Kerry saying,
"Gosh, I don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin
Laden. That's kind of one of those exaggerations."[1] Bush was
completely wrong.
At March 13, 2002 press conference, Bush said "So I don't know
where he [Osama Bin Laden] is. You know, I just don't spend that much
time on him...I truly am not that concerned about him."[2] Watch

Bush
Misleads on Judicial Nominees
Speaking in the Rose Garden in May 2003, President Bush said that he
understands "justice depend[s] on fair and impartial
judges."[1] But a new study shows that the judges President Bush
has nominated to the federal bench are biased against plaintiffs who sue
the government for violations of environmental law.
According to analysis by the nonpartisan Environmental Law Institute,
Bush appointees ruled in favor of environmental challenges just 17
percent of the time.[2] In contrast, judges appointed by former
Republican presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush ruled for
environmental plaintiffs 28 percent of the time.[3] And judges appointed
by recent Democratic presidents ruled for environmental plaintiffs 60
percent of the time.[4]
These statistics do not reflect the fact that the Senate blocked the
most extreme anti-environmental Bush nominees. For example, Texas
Supreme Court Justice Priscilla Owen - whose nomination didn't clear the
Senate - voted to uphold a section of the Texas Water Code that allowed
private landowners to exempt themselves from municipal clean water
regulations.[5] The majority of the court found the section violated the
Texas constitution and described Owen's opinion as consisting mostly of
"inflammatory rhetoric."[6]

Bush
Continues to Mislead on WMD
In the lead up to war, President Bush argued that America must invade
Iraq because it possessed weapons of mass destruction. For example, on
9/28/02 President Bush said, "the Iraqi regime possesses biological
and chemical weapons."[1] On 10/7/02, President Bush said,
"Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program."[2] Long
after it became clear that there were no stockpiles of WMD in Iraq,
President Bush has continued to insist that before the invasion
"Iraq was a gathering threat."[3]
A comprehensive 1000-page report to be released today by the Bush
administration's handpicked weapons inspector, Charles A. Duelfer, will
reveal "Saddam Hussein posed a diminishing threat at the time the
United States invaded and did not possess, or have concrete plans to
develop, nuclear, chemical or biological weapons" according to the
Washington Post.[4] According to Duelfer's report, U.N. sanctions
prevented Hussein from reconstituting his weapons programs.[5]

Cheney and Bush
Mislead
About Hussein/Zarqawi Connection
Vice President Cheney and President Bush have repeatedly claimed that
al-Qaeda had a working relationship with Saddam Hussein which justified
the invasion of Iraq. The key piece of evidence Cheney and President
Bush have used to support this claim was that Hussein harbored Abu Musab
al Zarqawi - a suspected associated of al-Qaeda. For example, on 6/21/04
Cheney said "Mr.
Zarqawi, who is in Baghdad today, is an al Qaeda associate who took
refuge in Baghdad, found sanctuary and safe harbor there before we ever
launched into Iraq."[1] President Bush said on 6/15/04 "Zarqawi's
the best evidence of a [Hussein] connection to al Qaeda affiliates and
al Qaeda."[2] One problem: there is no evidence to support these
claims.
Knight Ridder reports "a new CIA assessment undercuts the White
House claim that Saddam Hussein maintained ties to al Qaeda, saying
there is no conclusive evidence that the regime harbored terrorist Abu
Musab al Zarqawi."[3] According to a senior U.S. intelligence
official "The evidence is that Saddam never gave Zarqawi
anything."[4] Ironically, the assessment was requested by
Cheney.[5]

Bush
Attacked National Guard Service of Others
The White House is currently attacking those who raise questions about
President Bush's National Guard record. They say the questions about
Bush's failure to fulfill his commitment are "dirty
politics."[1] Yet a look at the record shows that it was President
George H.W. Bush - and his top campaign strategist George W. Bush - who
tried to smear the National Guard and military record of their
opponents.
As reported in the August 23, 1988 Los Angeles Times, then Vice
President George H.W. Bush's campaign co-chairman John Sununu went on
national television to impugn an opponent's dealings with the National
Guard during Vietnam. Sununu specifically claimed Sen. Lloyd Bentsen
(D-TX) had improperly helped get his son into the Texas National Guard
during Vietnam. Bentsen's son served in the very same National
Guard unit at the very same time as George W. Bush. The Bush campaign's
attacks came just days after Bush's allies on Capitol Hill launched a
vicious attack on Gov. Michael Dukakis (D-MA) for receiving a draft
deferment during the Korean War.[2]
At the time of the coordinated attack, George W. Bush was serving as a
senior adviser to his father's campaign.[3]
