Religion

"Religion
is an almost-perfect guide for life.
But it has one flaw: It has been entrusted to
mankind."

Mankind proved a
long time ago what kind of twits we are when we talk about religion.
We've kept the world torn apart
for centuries over the concept of "mine is bigger than yours."
"My religion is Great. Your's is shit."
Can you think of a faster way to start a war?
To the American Religious Right, apparently, thinking is not a prerequisite. In
fact, it seems to be frowned upon. Most of our most vocal
religious leaders insist on doing your thinking for you and they
get positively ballistic at the thought of separation of church and state. They
know what the Founding Fathers meant and wanted; just ask them.
It doesn't matter that the Founding Fathers were mostly Deists, and pretty blunt
about their beliefs. But the
Founding Fathers also understood very clearly the corruption
that eats away at the foundations when religion and
politics mix; it happened time and time again in
the old country. But our Founding Fathers had a better idea: If you
keep religion and politics apart, separate and equal, both become
strong pillars of the American experience. But if you let one
pillar meddle in the other pillar's business, neither has the
strength to support a solid nation.
Maybe the religious right would do better to listen to Jesus' own words: "...Render unto
Caesar that which is Caesar's, and to God that which is
God's."
